Ripley Endowed Primary School
Main Street

Dear Parents/Carers,

Across our federation we believe in teaching a broad curriculum and ensuring children develop skills that will help them with growing up and life beyond primary school. We have always taught Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and believe it is a very important subject for children to engage in.

This year it becomes compulsory for all primary schools to teach Relationships and Health Education. We have adopted a scheme called Jigsaw. Jigsaw aims to provide pupils with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, values and skills they need in order to reach their potential as individuals and within the community.

Jigsaw is divided into six units which are:

  • Being Me in My World
  • Celebrating Difference
  • Dreams and Goals
  • Healthy Me
  • Relationships
  • Changing Me

The units will be taught across the year to all year groups. All content is appropriate for the age of the children. PSHE is taught in a safe environment and children are always made aware that they are able to talk about anything they are unsure of.

The content that has been put together by Jigsaw has been done very thoughtfully and will always be delivered in a way which is relevant to the children in each class. If you would like to have a look at the materials we will be using, please speak to your child’s class teacher and they will be happy to show you.

Attached is a letter about the new Relationships and Health Education that is becoming statutory this month, our policy for you to look at and some more information about Jigsaw.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher or to Mrs Jackson Ward.

Kindest Regards

Mrs L Jackson-Ward
